Ecotourism and Community Based Projects The lack of mass tourism has resulted in a large number of community based projects which feature development of the places of interest by the local people. Villagers are trained as guides and money raised is used for village projects and in some cases simple accommodation has been built. The Volta region in particular, has many such projects although they have been actively encouraged throughout Ghana. We regularly visit Xavi in the Eastern Region where you can take a canoe trip and watch a cultural performance by the school children The Buoyem Conservation Project in the Kumasi region has bat caves and it is mentioned in the UN Report on sustainable Development. African Culture It is possible to arrange for you to watch or participate in, many African activities such as African drumming and dancing and cooking. This is possible in several different places so you should be able to fit it in to your trip, You can personally try your hand at some of the crafts such as kente cloth waving, tie and dye, batik. and printing cloth with the Adinkra design stamps. Craft villages can be visited from Kumasi. Ghana is rich in culture and there are many festivals throughout the year. You will be welcomed as a guest provided this has been previously arranged. |
